  1. What did you do this past week?
This past week I spent a lot of time on my internship search for next summer. I had interviews for several companies, and also spoke to other companies I’m interested in at the career brunch and expo.
I attended my classes, as usual, but didn’t spend too much time on homework and projects since I focused mostly on career-related activities.
Outside of school and my internship search, I attended several free dance workshops held by RDC, a dance organization at UT. Some friends and I also went to RDC’s tryouts yesterday for their main dance team. I found out last night that I made it to the second round, so I’m very excited about the possibility of joining the team.
  2. What’s in your way?
Several project deadlines are approaching, and most of my projects are group-based, so I will have to coordinate between my groups to finish my work. I also have an onsite interview with a company that I still need to schedule, and I will most likely have to miss class for this.
I’ve also had pretty bad allergies, and my lungs are pretty congested. I’ve had a hard time sleeping the past several nights because of coughing and breathing issues, so I may have something more serious.
  3. What will you do next week?
I have several interviews scheduled this week, and interviews that I still need to schedule. I’ve also booked an appointment with the university health center to check up on my cough and asthma.
I plan to spend some time working on my projects and looking over notes for upcoming tests.
  4. What was your experience in learning about operators and AWS? (this question will vary, week to week)
I’ve read some of the book Fluent Python, by Luciano Ramalho, whose first chapter covers operators in Python, so I’m pretty familiar with the Python operators. Python is my favorite language and my go-to for interviews, so I know my way around Python fairly well, but I always enjoy learning about it.
I’ve never used AWS before, so it was interesting seeing all the options that it offered, and some of the process for creating an AWS database.
  5. What’s your pick-of-the-week or tip-of-the-week?
I’ve recently spent time looking at other testing frameworks for Python besides unittest, which we used on the first project. I came across Pytest, a testing framework known for its ease of use and minimal boilerplate code. I spent some time trying it out and really enjoyed using it, so I’d recommend considering Pytest when searching for a Python testing framework.
